Ved Prakash Malik

General Ved Prakash Malik (General V.P. Malik) (born November 1, 1939, Dera Ismail Khan, North West Frontier Province (British India) served as 19th Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army from 30-September-1997 till 30-September-2000.

He has received the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished service to the Indian Army and to the nation; this service included the Tangail Airdrop, where Malik was injured in both feet, necessitating their amputation and replacement with Jaipur feet, making him the first Army Chief with two artificial limbs.

He was Army Chief during Kargil War.

He is presently a resident of Panchkula, Haryana.
